Fashion Weeks: Space NK's new CEO discusses the award-winning Oxford Circus flagship as the retailer adds Sarah Creal Beauty

Space NK's new Chief Executive Officer, Emma Simpson-Scott, has outlined the retailer's evolving strategy following an award for its London flagship store. TheIndustry.beauty reports that the Oxford Circus location won the Physical Retail Award at the 2026 Innovators Awards for its immersive concept designed around modern consumer needs.

Simpson-Scott, who stepped into the CEO role this week after serving as Chief Marketing Officer, discussed the opportunities and challenges shaping beauty's future. The flagship, which opened last year, curates emerging brands, exclusive launches, and established favourites to create a discovery destination.

Sarah Creal Beauty Targets 40+ Demographic

Space NK's assortment now includes Sarah Creal Beauty, a skincare and makeup brand founded in 2024 by industry veteran Sarah Creal. The brand explicitly targets women over 40, a demographic it argues the beauty industry has underserved. Creal's background includes roles at Prada Beauty, Tom Ford Beauty, and Bobbi Brown.

The brand's sales reportedly reached $10 million in its first year. It joins other brands like Trinny London, Studio10, Laura Geller Beauty, and Merit in focusing on products for more mature skin and centering the 40+ woman in marketing campaigns. Analysis by TheIndustry.beauty notes the growing purchasing power and discerning habits of this customer segment, while also exploring the tensions of creating age-based product categories.

2026 Beauty Advent Calendars Arrive

Brands and retailers are launching their 2026 beauty advent calendars early, featuring higher-value assortments, more full-size products, and collectible packaging. TheIndustry.beauty's updated round-up highlights calendars from Liberty, Marks & Spencer, ASOS, John Lewis, and Selfridges, among others. The publication notes the trend towards more expansive and specialist edits spanning fragrance and wellbeing.

L'Oréal Study Reveals Dermatology Access Gap

New research from L'Oréal Dermatological Beauty, conducted with the International League of Dermatological Societies, exposes a significant global shortage of dermatologists. The study found only 27 out of 158 surveyed countries have enough specialists to meet population needs.

The global average is 2.66 dermatologists per 100,000 people, far below the 5.63 per 100,000 needed for adequate provision. Access is further skewed by geography, with 79% of dermatologists globally working in urban areas. In low-income countries, this figure rises to 91%, creating barriers for people outside major cities. Catherine Rowe-Kosary, a Junior Writer at TheIndustry.beauty, stated the research "puts the wider skincare conversation into perspective."
