Fashion Weeks: Aptar Beauty created a custom refillable pump for L'Occitane's new hand care line

Global dispensing systems leader Aptar Beauty has partnered with L'Occitane En Provence to create a custom pump for the brand's repackaged hand care collection. The collaboration resulted in a refillable pump designed to match a new apothecary-inspired visual identity.

Aptar developed the component based on its Satine cosmetic pump platform. The project leveraged the company's French manufacturing facilities to deliver the bespoke product in under a year.

A Return to Apothecary Roots

L'Occitane En Provence's repackaging of its hand care line marks a strategic shift. The brand says the new look reinforces its legacy of craftsmanship and authenticity. The bottle design draws inspiration from the apothecary jar.

The pump, the brand claims, is stamped as a witness of the rigorous artisanal process. The redesigned bottles are available in both glass and plastic versions. They are now refillable to extend product life cycles.

Designed for Refillability and Control

Aptar Beauty created a fully custom solution to bring L'Occitane's vision to life. The pump features a 24/410 screw-on neck finish specifically for refillability. Its large actuator and oversized collar were designed to match the new, wider packaging silhouette.

A glossy black lacquer finish ensures visual consistency across the brand's products. The wide actuation surface is intended to be comfortable and stable. This design aims to make the pump easy to use for people with reduced dexterity.

For a premium experience, L'Occitane challenged Aptar to incorporate a technical orientation system. This system ensures the pump always aligns perfectly with the bottle when unlocked and ready for use. Furthermore, the pump is engineered to deliver an optimised 500 μl dose. This allows for controlled and clean dispensing.

A Collaborative Manufacturing Effort

Benjamin Girard, Sales Director Custom for Aptar Beauty EMEA, highlighted the collaborative approach. "Our co-creation approach to custom development takes advantage of our technical expertise and manufacturing synergies to create unique pumps that support brand differentiation and product inclusivity," he stated.

The pump is molded and decorated at Aptar's custom flagship facility in Oyonnax, France. Final assembly takes place at the company's site in Le Neubourg. The synergies between these French facilities supported local manufacturing and secure supply chain coordination.
