The transition is set for October 19, pending shareholder approval. Leysen reflects on his contributions, while Ridinger expresses enthusiasm for leading the company’s next phase.

Dsm-firmenich, a leading fragrance and flavours company, has announced that Thomas Leysen will retire as Chair of the Board of Directors. The board has proposed Richard Ridinger, an Independent Director, to succeed him. Leysen’s departure will take effect once shareholders approve Ridinger’s appointment at the Extraordinary General Shareholders Meeting (EGM) on 19 October.
Leysen has played a pivotal role in shaping the company during a period of significant change and challenging market conditions. His leadership has been credited with fostering a "strong and resilient organisation." In a statement, Leysen acknowledged the progress made, noting that the company is now fully integrated, with key initiatives such as portfolio adjustments and margin improvement programs well underway. He described the timing as "opportune" for a leadership transition, expressing confidence in Ridinger’s ability to advance the company further.
## Richard Ridinger’s Appointment
Richard Ridinger brings extensive executive and board-level experience in global, innovation-driven industries, including pharma, home care, personal care, nutrition, and health. The company highlights his deep understanding of dsm-firmenich’s operations and strategic direction. Ridinger has been unanimously proposed by the board for the role, with shareholders set to vote on his appointment in October.
Ridinger expressed gratitude for the board’s trust and enthusiasm for the opportunity to guide dsm-firmenich’s future. He acknowledged the company’s progress under Leysen’s leadership and looked forward to collaborating with the board and Executive Committee to shape the next chapter.
## Leysen’s Legacy and Future Plans
Leysen’s tenure as Chair has been marked by significant milestones, including the company’s integration and strategic realignment. He will step down to focus on other corporate and non-profit mandates. Reflecting on his time at dsm-firmenich, Leysen described it as a "pleasure and an honour" to chair the board during its formative stages.
The transition comes as dsm-firmenich continues to navigate market challenges and execute its long-term strategy. The company’s recent developments, including the sale of its Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) division and ongoing margin improvement initiatives, position it for future growth under new leadership.
