Fall 2026 Makeup Trends Favor Ethereal, Soft Looks
Makeup artist Dani Parkes forecasts six key beauty trends for fall 2026, including ghost lashes, anti-blush, and stained glass lips, emphasizing a soft

Makeup for fall 2026 is defined by an ethereal and softened aesthetic, according to makeup artist Dani Parkes. The trends, reported by Cosmopolitan beauty editor Beth Gillette, move away from precision toward sheered-out, smudged applications that prioritize natural features.
Ghost Lashes and Casual Blues
The viral 'ghost lashes' look popularized by Zendaya is set to continue into fall. This trend involves wearing no mascara or false lashes, allowing bare lashes to blend with the skin. Parkes notes that many of her clients now explicitly request no false lashes for appointments. For those wanting a hint of definition, she recommends a mere 'kiss of mascara' on the lash tips and outer corners.
Blue eyeshadow is also making a casual comeback. Parkes describes the look as hazy and fresh, utilizing aquamarine or faded-denim shades instead of stark navy. This approach creates a powdery effect that feels less traditionally autumnal.
Anti-Blush and Stained Glass Lips
The 'anti-blush' trend offers a muted, cool-toned alternative to the bold pinks and peaches of recent years. Parkes explains it as a blush that mimics the natural contour and flush of the cheeks without being obvious. She cites two specific products favored for this technique.
Lip trends are shifting from matte and vinyl finishes to a 'stained glass' effect. This look features translucent, glossy color that allows the natural lip to show through, often achieved with glossy lip stains. Deep brown or berry shades are recommended to complement the season.
Soft Smoke and Iced Out Highlights
Smokey eyes are being refined for fall 2026. Instead of heavy shadow, a smudged-out eyeliner can create a similar effect. Parkes observes a shift in placement, with more people opting for a 'foxy liner' that extends downward or outward rather than lifting up.
A bright inner corner highlight, dubbed 'iced out,' is predicted to transition from summer red carpets into the colder months. This simple technique involves dabbing a shimmery white or cream eyeshadow stick into the inner corners of the eyes to add lightness and an ethereal glow. Using a highlighter can create a softer version of the look.
