Make-up Trends 2026: Skin-Care Hybrids and Maximalism Return
A new report from Cosmetics Business details the top make-up trends for 2026, highlighting a market rebound driven by skin-care-infused formulas and a

Make-up sales are rebounding in 2026, with prestige face product sales in Europe up 9% in the first half of the year. According to data from Circana, the UK market saw a 10% increase in prestige make-up sales during the same period.
This growth is driven by the ongoing 'skinification' of make-up, says Mathilde Lion, Circana's Director of Beauty for Europe. Consumers are applying years of skin care knowledge to their make-up purchases, demanding formulas that offer both cosmetic performance and long-term skin benefits.
The Skin-Care Make-up Hybrid Boom
Specific product segments are seeing significant value growth as a result of this hybrid demand. In Europe, concealers rose 10%, tinted moisturisers grew 15%, and blush and bronzer sales increased by 11% and 23% respectively during the first half of 2026. The US market also reported double-digit gains for bronzers and blush.
Lisa Payne, Head of Beauty at trend agency Stylus, notes consumer excitement for complexion products that promise a 'your-skin-but-better' finish. "Products straddling the line between skin care and make-up provide more comfortable wear as well as longer-term benefits," she explains, citing wrinkle-reduction as an example.
Emelie Sundesten, Creative Director of Caia Cosmetics, tells Cosmetics Business that skin-care-infused formulas have changed consumer expectations. "Coverage alone is no longer enough," she says. Successful products are those where skin care benefits like hydration directly improve the wearing experience, rather than just serving as a marketing claim.
Korean Beauty's Lasting Influence
Korean beauty remains a major force shaping the category. Suzanne Scott, Associate Global Beauty Director of SEEN Group, states that a generation brought into beauty via K-beauty skin care is now embracing K-beauty make-up influences. The aesthetic focuses on subtle enhancements-making eyes look larger or lips plumper-with a continued obsession with textures like plumpness and juiciness. K-beauty is also introducing hero skin care ingredients, such as PDRN, into colour cosmetics.
The Maximalist Comeback
While skin-care benefits are non-negotiable, aesthetics are shifting towards more expressive, maximalist looks. Online retailer LookFantastic reports the A/W '26 consumer is moving away from prescriptive aesthetics towards individuality, embracing colour and statement details. Their search data shows renewed appetite for feature-defining products.
| Feature Category | Search Increase |
|---|---|
| Brows | 25.3% |
| Eyes | 19.3% |
| Lips | 11.7% |
Lip colour sales in Europe are up 4% in 2026, a sharp reversal from the past five years. Nikki DeRoest, CEO of make-up brand Ciele, observes a return to make-up as self-expression. "I'm seeing people wanting to play again," she says, noting the importance of blush for shaping personality and the return of a strong lip. However, she adds that the next generation of colour cosmetics must balance this creativity with thoughtful, skin-friendly formulation.
Key Product Trends for 2026
The report highlights several specific product trends set to define the year.
Loose setting powder is being reinvented for a comeback, with major launches from brands like Charlotte Tilbury and Dior moving beyond the ultra-matte finishes of the past.
PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide), a breakout K-beauty skin care ingredient known for supporting hydration and skin regeneration, is expanding into colour cosmetics. Melody Yuan, founder of retailer Skin Cupid, says ingredients like PDRN are becoming important selling points in make-up due to their association with skin conditioning.
Lip stains and tints are dominating new lip product launches. Trend forecaster WGSN links this to 'make-up essentialism,' where consumers seek fewer, higher-performing products. The trend caters to a demand for easy, long-wearing colour that feels lightweight.
