Industry: Hourglass Cosmetics has named make-up artist Jenny Atwood Smith as its Director of Global Artistry

Hourglass Cosmetics has appointed veteran make-up artist Jenny Atwood Smith as its new Director, Global Artistry. The Unilever-owned luxury brand announced that Smith will be responsible for shaping its artistry vision across all markets.

Smith will support product launches, education programs, and key brand initiatives. She told Cosmetics Business that the role unites the core passions of her career. "This includes artistry, education, product, retail, and creating meaningful connections with both artists and clients," she said.

A 360-Degree Perspective

Smith brings nearly two decades of experience from her previous tenure at NARS. There, her work spanned education, marketing, innovation, and sales, supporting global launches and product development. She plans to bring a similar comprehensive approach to Hourglass.

"A major focus will be inspiring and educating our retail teams through product knowledge, artistry, and sales training," Smith stated. She will also support masterclasses, events, store openings, and brand activations. Smith views artistry as a powerful business tool that builds client trust and drives commercial success.

Aligning Artistry and Brand Philosophy

Smith describes her personal make-up style as polished and sophisticated, but always with an edge. She emphasizes beautiful skin and complexion work, finished with a modern, individual element. Her diverse career across luxury retail, fashion, editorial, and working with musicians has taught her to adapt her artistry while maintaining a distinct point of view.

She believes this balance is a natural fit for Hourglass Cosmetics. There is a sophistication and luxury to the brand, but there is also innovation, performance, and a very modern sensibility, Smith said. She has long believed luxury make-up should be both aspirational and high-performing.

A Values-Driven Appointment

A significant philosophical connection sealed the alignment for Smith. She has maintained a cruelty-free professional kit for years and is involved in vegan and animal-rights advocacy. Hourglass's commitment to vegan and cruelty-free beauty is therefore personally meaningful to her.

Joining a brand where those values can coexist with luxury, innovation, and high-performance artistry feels very aligned with who I am as both an artist and a person, Smith told the publication. Her appointment signals Hourglass's continued focus on ethical luxury within the beauty trends calendar.
