Escentric Molecules opens first store in Berlin
The cult fragrance brand Escentric Molecules has opened its first permanent physical store in Berlin's Mitte district, marking a new chapter after 20 years

Cult fragrance brand Escentric Molecules opened its first permanent store in Berlin on September 8, 2026. The brand, famous for scents that adapt to wearers' body chemistry, is moving beyond online and department store sales with a boutique in the city's Mitte district.
Set in a former art gallery on a street known for its galleries, the space aims to blend fragrance, art, and experimentation. Architect Sophie Schoen-Berianidze, who partnered with brand co-founder Geza Schoen, described the vision. "We envisioned a gallery-like space, a place where fragrances could be experienced rather than simply displayed," she said.
A Minimalist, High-Tech Environment
The store's design reflects the brand's ethos of stripped-back minimalism, industrial design, and genderless futurism. Video screens show molecular activity, while controlled lighting and a soundtrack of German techno set the mood. Products are displayed on anodised aluminium infrastructure. At night, the products recede to transform the space into a glowing gallery for public art projections.
Creative director and co-founder Paul White emphasized Berlin's significance. "Berlin has always been a part of our DNA, and creating a permanent home here allows us to deepen our connection with our community," he stated. The city is also home to the fragrance lab where the brand's scents are first conceived.
From Cult Favourite to Global Phenomenon
Founded 20 years ago, Escentric Molecules built its reputation around the single synthetic molecule Iso E Super. It pioneered so-called "anti-fragrances" and skin scents that change according to an individual's body chemistry. The brand has reported fans including Rihanna, Madonna, and Kate Moss.
Since the initial launch of Escentric 01 and Molecules 01, the collection has expanded. It now includes scents built around various central notes.
| Fragrance Name | Key Note |
|---|---|
| Escentric 01 | Iso E Super |
| Molecules 01 | Iso E Super |
| Other variants include scents centered on | Black Tea, Mandarin, Clary Sage, and Champaca |
Establishing an Independent Fragrance House
Co-founder Geza Schoen called the store the final step in establishing Escentric Molecules as a truly independent fragrance house. He noted that every element, from the aluminium details to the crafted soundscape, reflects the brand's DNA to create a calm, multi-sensory experience. Schoen described the Berlin location as a natural home for the brand.
The store's large-scale street-facing display will feature a constantly changing roster of artists and filmmakers. This ongoing program is a tribute to Berlin's experimental creative scene, inviting the public to engage with the space even after hours.
