Dior's Perfume Creation Director Francis Kurkdjian has reinvented 13 iconic Dior fragrances for a new collection called Dioriginals, which spans nearly 80 years of the French luxury fashion house's history. According to Kurkdjian, the collection is aimed at safeguarding endangered fragrance masterpieces against changing standards and ingredient availability in perfumery. Kurkdjian joined Dior in 2021 and has since worked to restore the original formulas of the iconic fragrances.
Introduction to Dioriginals
The Dioriginals collection includes restored scents such as Diorama, Eau Fraîche, Diorissimo, Diorling, and Diorella, among others. The collection will launch on 1 October and will also feature Dioressence, Jules, Dolce Vita, Dune, Dune Homme, Higher, Forever and Ever, as well as Higher Energy. Kurkdjian has stated that a perfume should be cherished and looked after like a fragile work of art that is subject to the vagaries of time.
Restoring Iconic Fragrances
Kurkdjian has worked with the Dior Perfume Creative Studio to restore the composition of each of the fragrances to their original brilliance. The collection is grouped into two time periods: 'Dior in Grasse' and 'Dior in Paris'. The 'Dior in Grasse' period honours the masterpieces of Edmond Roudnitska, as well as Diorling, a creation by Paul Vacher. Kurkdjian has focused on restoring the quality of the jasmine in Diorama, while also restoring the original shine and scent of the masterful composition.
